Deleted Entry

Some of you may notice I've deleted an entry I posted yesterday regarding a family matter. Upon reflection, I've decided it's not worth the risk of a family brouhaha if the wrong person finds out about it.

Sigh...sometimes a conscience can be an annoying thing.

Your post described something most of us have been through. There's nothing like family. Toss in some political talk with a splash of alcohol and you've got yourself trouble.

Anyway, after reading your post I wondered if any of them read your blog. If so, that couldn't be a good thing. Smart move on your part removing it.

We completely understand. Sounds like a wise decision.

Every extended family is bound to have some Lib/Leftists that cannot be converted, no matter what. It is best not to get into squabbles, as others may be forced to "take sides". And if alcohol is involved, that is even more true.

It is better to quietly work on some of those that seem to be willing to listen to the logical, reasoned Conservative viewpoint, even if they won't openly admit agreeing. Just give them something to think about in their private moments.

My 18-year old daughter still hasn't completely learned the art of diplomacy while discussing politics at family gatherings. On my mom's side of the family, most of the people are fairly conservative, except for perhaps one of her second cousins and his wife. He is a public school teacher and I suspect he follows the union line. Last year, at Thanksgiving, Ashley (my daughter) made some sort of comment running down John Kerry, assuming that everyone in the room would agree with her (and most probably did), but I did notice that the cousin's wife sort of winced at the comment, so I politely pulled Ashley aside and whispered some advice, hoping that she wouldn't do the same again. I just hope she remembers for next time.
