Madonna and her African Baby
Does anyone else find this somewhat disturbing?
The pop superstar broke her silence over the adoption hours after 13-month-old David Banda arrived at her multi-million pound home in London.
In an open letter she said it was her wish "to open up our home and help one child escape an extreme life of hardship, poverty, and in many cases death."
Madonna added that she has acted "according to the law like anyone else who adopts a child."
And she asked for room for her family to "experience the joy we feel to have David at home."
So much joy that she couldn't even carry him off the plane at Heathrow, but gave that task to one of her minions? Why do I get the feeling this is a major publicity stunt?
Does this remind anyone else of a Joan "Mommie Dearest" scenario?
Is Madonna another "Mommie Dearest"
in the making?

This situation is a big mess. You're right on with your observation that the child is so important to her, yet she couldn't be bothered to pick him up from the airport. (Much less go back to Malawi and get him!)

thanks for the fine link and amazing blog!
Posted by: hnav at October 18, 2006 04:44 PMShe's so interested in observing the legalities that she is IGNORING the Malawi law that potential adoptive parents LIVE IN MALAWI for 18 months prior to being permitted to adopt a child AND she spirited that little boy out of the country mere hours before a court in Malawi was due to hear legal challenges to her potential adoption.
Just like any liberal, really. Whatever SHE wants to do, she is going to do - regardless of the law or morality or how offensive it is to other people. Because after all, she is the CENTER of her own story!
