Penn and Teller Take On...Recycling!

Okay, I admit it...we recycle as much as we can at our house. So hubby and I were a bit dismayed to see that the masters of illusion have taken on the real-life illusion that is recycling (although I have heard some of the arguments they use before). Pull up a chair, get ready to plug your ears when you hear bad words, and see what they have to say about recycling and more wool being pulled over our eyes. (h/t: LGF)

I thought so too! My bro-in-law used to work for a paper mill, and he told us about the wastefulness of recycling paper long ago...but it was interesting to learn about the other recycling myths.

Michael Rowe of Dirty Jobs worked in a recycling plant in New Jersey and it was a rotten smelly job sorting trash. They got down to the Organic material and turned it into compost which okay was a good story. Killer was they shipped this compost to California for the grape vine growers. I fell off my couch at that one.
I drove truck and cardboard shipments barely covers the cost of shipment and they are heavy most right at legal limits. Hard on equipment and damaging to road surfaces especially on hot days driving on asphalt. Tends to grove the roads.

Around here the recycling center can only handle 10% of what they collect in New Haven County. The rest head straight for whatever landfill is taking trucks this week.

When I lived in Albany, NY it was a measly 7%. The only thing that they use all of are the leaf bags, that becomes commercial mulch somewhere down the line, so we make some money on that as a county/city/whatever.
