How Jim DeMint Defeated the Amnesty Bill
Right Wing News has the scoop on how Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) put a stick in the spokes of the "comprehensive immigration reform" bicycle wheel long enough to allow other opponents to draft some amendments to the bill, which contributed to the ultimate vote against cloture last night. Nice job, Jim.
I guess relations between him and Lindsay "We're going to tell the bigots to shut up" Graham will be somewhat chilly for a while.

good for Sen. DeMINT...
thank you Senator...
this is one amusing aspect, as many have embraced a form of vitriol, where they say they are abandoning the GOP.
but here again, we have an example of a fine effort of a Republican fighting for debate and amendments to some better legislation.
in fact, prior to NOV. 2006, the GOP listened to the anger and killed comprehensive immigration reform, producing a Border Fence Bill only, signed by this President.
and they were not rewarded at the polls at all...
it seems to be a vivid contradiction.
so far, the Republican Party, listening to the Conservative base, has prevented the concerning aspects of immigration reform from being made into law, and they aren't thanked or appreciated for their effort.
it makes little sense.
i remain deeply thankful here, for the Republican Party, (considering nothing is perfect in any sense)...

It's NOT over yet...

Posted by: Van Helsing at June 10, 2007 09:54 PMHave the Republicans realized that if this bill passes, they will never have a majority in the House or the Senate, and will never again have a Republican president?
I'm not sure how to put this without being accused of some sort of racism, but a large majority of the illegal immigrants, once they become legal, will be voting for the democrats. So basically, the Republicans like Lindsay Graham and John McCain, if able to succeed in this legislation, would ensure democratic leadership for the foreseeable future.
