Bill Clinton: Pick Me, Pick Me!
He's already picking out the curtains and the china pattern, so to speak. Bill Clinton envisions himself in some kind of diplomatic role if wifey gets elected president next year.
When asked what sort of job he would prefer, Clinton said: "I think that probably I would be of most use to her doing something to try to help restore America's standing in the world, and build more allies and get us to work together again."
Yes, let's go back to that cozy 9/10 feeling, shall we? When America was loved by everyone, thanks to the Clinton presidency. Of course, Osama bin Laden was making his plans during the Clinton administration, but Bill must mean "everyone but" bin Laden.
*shudder*
And it's a win-win for the missus. She gains the power she craves AND can send Bill packing without the mess of an actual divorce!

i seem to remember the clinton administration handing over a lot of information regarding al qaeda and OBL when the bush administration came in.
and didn't 9/11 happen on george w's watch?
correct me if i'm wrong, but i think 9/11/01 happened while GEORGE BUSH was president.
Posted by: steve at October 5, 2007 09:01 AMSteve -- Do you also remember everyone screaming "wag the dog!!!" when Clinton tried to go after OBL during Monicagate?
And Pam, the US was extremely well respected by most of the world during Clinton's presidency, including in the middle east. Don't you remember the 90s?
Clinton didn't "go after" OBL. He half-heartedly used the military when it suited him politically, launching some missiles into a Sudanese aspirin factory and some empty caves in Afghanistan in an attempt to delay his impeachment. Clinton failed to follow up on the first World Trade Center bombing, barely did anything after the attack on the Kohbar Towers, and nothing after the attack on the USS Cole. Only OBL's attacks on the African embassies yielded anything substantial. Clinton was too busy denying his scurrilous behavior and covering his political ass to seriously go after terrorists.
Still, it's not ALL Clinton's fault. Bush Sr. and Reagan totally ignored the rise of Islamic terrorism, too. Luckily, Bush Jr. had the stones to unleash our military against this evil despite the political consequences. That's leadership.
Posted by: Reverse_Vampyr at October 5, 2007 12:36 PMVery good story about how Clinton totally dropped the ball when he could have captured or killed Bin Laden.
We had OBL in our sights, Clinton flinched.

Posted by: Reverse_Vampyr at October 5, 2007 12:42 PMR_V -- Has the "leadership" exhibited by GWB resulting in anything positive at all? Did they catch OBL? Are they even looking any more? The end result of the so-called leadership has bred insurgents like bacteria in a petri dish. The US will always have enemies, regardless of who the president is, but it just seems that GWB has spent seven years collecting them like stamps. How is that good for national security again?
Posted by: Ro at October 5, 2007 03:08 PMOk, so it seems I've totally ignored the first part of your comment, though, R_V, and I'm sorry about that.
WTC Bombing (first time): Five people, including the leader of the group, Yousef, have been convicted and sentences to 240 years in prison, each.
Kohbar Towers: if I remember correctly on this one, 14 people have been indicted for this, but due to Bush's buddies in Saudia Arabia refusing to extridite them (I guess there's no treaty), there's not a helluva lot we can do.
USS Cole in Yemen: Yemeni's won't allow the FBI access to anything. Plus this happened right before GWB came in to office, so I'm not sure what Clinton was supposed to do about it after leaving office?
It was certainly not Clinton who was trying to draw more attention to his bj than to OBL when he attempted to bomb him in Afghanistan. That would be the Republicans.
RO - Your comment "Has the "leadership" exhibited by GWB resulting in anything positive at all? Did they catch OBL? Are they even looking any more?" is an insult to the multitude of soldiers and marines currently fighting the war in Afghanistan. I know Afghanistan is not "glamorous" because it's going better there than in Iraq, but the fact that many people - you included - always seem to forget they are there risking their lives is an affront to my friend Chris Etgen, currently stationed there.
Posted by: Wyatt Earp at October 5, 2007 06:20 PMWell, Bill was in the Faeroe Islands the other day. Did Hillary send him?
Good spot for him!
