It's Hard Being a Rich American Celebrity Abroad

My latest at Pajamas:

That dastardly George W. Bush has made life incredibly difficult for the jet set. Imagine having to hide your face in shame every time you travel to Europe just because holier-than-thou Europeans think that since they don’t like your president, you shouldn’t either. It must really put a cramp in your ability to enjoy luxuries like private jet travel, expensive hotels, and fine wines. Oh, the horror.

I too know the burdens of exotic travel: I just came back from a whirlwind trip to the next town over, where I got the window in my car fixed at the dealership.

I loved that uppercut at the end.

This is the hidden embarrassment for these human cattle down in Hollywood; some of them have left. Johnny Depp has left. Gwyneth Paltrow has left. Nobody really notices.

Human cattle are devoted to the idea of making a huge difference in the promulgation of an idea, but making no difference at all in deciding what that idea should be. Their ultimate dedication, therefore, is to whistle on through life without really making a difference in anything. So when they leave, it doesn't matter.

I think that's why they threaten to leave so much without actually doing it.

This is the only nation on Earth that would permit someone as modestly talented as Tom Cruise or Will Smith to succeed as monumentally as they have been lucky enough to do!

And of course, whenever someone is so blessed, their first [basest] instinct is to chomp down on the hand what has fed them beyond their ability to comprehend!

Dimwitted pinheads!
